With Easter weekend on the way and there still being little sign that spring is here we thought we’d offer up some pared-back, un-fussy, seasonal styling inspiration to reflect the yet to bloom earth and trees. With a cool palette of blues and whites, time-worn textures, salvaged furniture, a flash of understated nature and an air of simplicity we hope these ideas bring some joy to your home.

You may have already amassed a collection of items which fit with this soft rustic look, however if you feel like you are lacking one-off pieces then head to our Lincoln Antiques & Home Show this bank holiday Monday & Tuesday. The show is a wonderful hunting ground for European salvage, industrial furniture, boxes and crates, chippy wood picture frames and French shutters and tableware. If you visit the Shopping Arcade, which is close to the entrance to the indoor Epic Centre area, you'll find a host of specialist traders selling the ever-popular French country look - look out for French dealer Gaille and the talented ladies from Brocante Decorative.

Planting up bulbs or creating floral displays (using oasis and moss as a basis) in salvaged vessels makes the most wonderful feature, whether as a table centrepiece of placed on a windowsill. This rusted chicken feed trough works effectively and has real rustic charm. Equally good to use are old drain pipes and metal drawers.

Old crates and boxes are a perfect addition to the pared-back look, and not only provide good storage but can hold themed collections and plants, as well as adding height to a display. Aged window frames and shutters make great backdrops, frame focal areas and add a pretty layering effect to a room.

With little in blossom on the trees at the moment you may have to visit your local florist for stems and blooms to lift the look, however branches just coming in to bud look beautifully understated; add homemade decorations and you've got a unique table centrepiece. Try repurposing old cans and pots as vases to make your flora and fauna look even more eye-catching.

It's time to get resouceful and make do with what mother nature is giving us and discover that there is beauty in all things minimal. Let the patina of old things guide you, keep your colours simple and calm and patiently await spring with its abundance of colour and new, vibrant energy.
Wishing you a Happy Easter and here's hoping that spring doesn't keep us waiting too long.
